Sócrates é
o primeiro longa-metragem do escritor/diretor brasileiro-americano Alex
moratto. O filme foi produzido por Ramin Bahrani (99 HOMES) e traz nos papeis
principais os jovens atores Christian Malheiros e Tales Ordakji.
Nos dias
seguintes à morte súbita de sua mãe, Sócrates (Christian Malheiros), de 15 anos
de idade, morador da Baixada Santista, enfrenta as dificuldades de sobreviver
por conta própria e aprender a viver com sua dor.
Sócrates
foi produzido com um elenco atores na faixa dos 16 aos 20 anos de idade membros
do Instituto Querô, um projeto apoiado pela UNICEF que fornece inclusão social
através do cinema para jovens carentes na região da Baixada Santista de São
Paulo, no Brasil. Sócrates também foi escrito por Thayná Mantesso, uma
roteirista brasileira de 20 anos de idade e graduada pelo Instituto Querô. Sócrates foi filmado com um microorçamento de
menos de 20 mil dolares.
Alex Moratto
tem diversas curtas premiados em festivais de cinema internacionais - NOWHERE
TO BE FOUND, THE PARTING e THE OTHER SIDE. Ele estudou no Independent Film diretor Lab
Fellow e no North Carolina Arts Council além de ser artista convidado pelo Sundance
Creative Prodution Labs. Ele se formou pela da escola de artes da UNC. Moratto
reside na Califórnia e em São Paulo.

Interview with new Brazilian director in HOLLYWOOD
SOCRATES is the debut feature film from Brazilian-American
writer/director Alex Moratto. The film was produced by Ramin Bahrani (99 HOMES)
and stars Christian Malheiros and Tales Ordakji.
In the days following his mother's sudden death, Socrates
(Christian Malheiros), a 15-year-old living on São Paulo's margins,
faces the difficulties of surviving on his own and coming to terms with his
grief.
SOCRATES was produced with a crew of 16-20-year-olds from
the Querô Institute, a UNICEF-supported project that provides social inclusion
through filmmaking to underprivileged youths in the Baixada Santista region of
São Paulo, Brazil. SOCRATES was also written by Thayná Mantesso a 20-year-old
Brazilian screenwriter and graduate of the Querô Institute. SOCRATES
was filmed with a micro-budget of under $20,000.
Alex Moratto's award-winning short films NOWHERE TO BE
FOUND, THE PARTING and THE OTHER SIDE have screened at international film
festivals. He was a Film Independent Directing Lab Fellow and a North Carolina
Arts Council Artist Fellow and had a project in the Sundance Creative Producing
Labs. He received his BFA from the UNC School of the Arts where he was a Kenan
Excellence full scholarship recipient and winner of the DGA Student Film Jury
Award for his thesis. Moratto
resides in California and São Paulo.
