The film additionally received nominations for Best Ensemble Cast, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Visual Effects, Best Stunt Design, Best Original Song, Best Original Score, and Best Sound.
Personally, I really enjoyed Sinners. It’s a film that moves confidently through several genres—musical, horror, action, romance—while offering a rich and compelling look at the lives of Black people in the racist American South. Everything is cleverly woven together with intelligence, good humor, and a fluid narrative, free of bumps or disappointments. The art direction and musical work are truly deserving of every nomination, further highlighting the undeniable talent of writer-director Ryan Coogler.
I had the chance to speak with him a few days ago during a pleasant brunch at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. He was joined by the brilliant minds behind the film’s soundtrack, the award-winning Ludwig Göransson and Raphael Saadiq, both nominated for Best Original Song and Best Original Score.
Among the actors present, I saw nominees Michael B. Jordan and Wunmi Mosaku, and also had the chance to talk with Jamie Lawson and the brilliant Delroy Lindo.
If you haven’t seen Sinners yet, don’t miss it. And for those who want a sneak peek, I posted a very interesting video on my YouTube channel, provided by Warner Bros. Here is the link:
